I’m excited to announce my Intro to Photography Class, which will be held over three weeks in Carlisle, PA. Sessions will be on Thursdays (January 9, 16, and 23) from 6:00p – 7:30p (with a make up date of January 30). Group size will be capped at 6 students to make sure that everyone can get the help that they need.
This class is designed for those that are relatively new (or need a refresher) using a DSLR or mirrorless digital camera. It would make a great present for someone that just got a new camera during the holiday season.
The focus here will be on camera usage for landscapes and cityscapes, though the topics that we cover will largely translate over to other areas of photography. The basics are important to know and largely the same regardless of whether you are shooting trees, buildings, people, or animals.
All sessions are in-person in a classroom setting and will be largely conducted via presentation and lecture with plenty of time for questions.
Students will be expected to provide their own DSLR or mirrorless camera.
Topics covered will include but are certainly not limited to:
- Getting Off Automatic: How to use your camera’s three manual modes.
- Settings Galore: What each setting does and how it can impact your photography
- Mastering the Exposure Triangle: Learn how to work with aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, and how to get the photo you want
- How to Pick the Right Focal Length: How the lens and focal length you shoot with can impact your photo
- Composing the Right Shot: Learn all about composition, including the Rule of Thirds
- What Works and What Doesn’t: Looking at famous photos, instructor photos, and participant photos to learn what works and what can be done better
- Editing Your Images: A brief introduction to Lightroom editing software and how to make your images pop
Note that if any session must be canceled due to weather, instructor sickness, or other circumstances, a make-up session will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025. No refunds will be provided if you are unable to make any of the initial dates or the make-up date. A prorated refund will be offered should we be unable to complete the three workshop dates within the four-week period.
This workshop also has a minimum number of participants required for it to go on. Should that minimum not be met at least 10 days prior to the workshop, all money paid will be refunded.
This workshop is recommended for those 16 and over. However, exceptions can be made in certain circumstances. If you have a child under 16 that is interested in this class, please email me using the form at the bottom of this page to discuss before booking.
If you have any other questions regarding refund policies, suggested equipment, or anything else, read our FAQ page. You can also message me using the form below.
