There are many beautiful cities and towns to photograph in Pennsylvania, but Pittsburgh might be my favorite for photos.

Come join me for this photography workshop that will cover both sunset and after-dark photography around the city’s downtown core. This workshop is geared towards those just starting out with nighttime photography, but photographers of all skill levels are welcome. If you don’t need any instruction, but just want to photograph the city with a group, feel free to come along.

Along the way, we’ll talk about the proper settings for both sunset and after-dark photography, different techniques that you can use to get properly exposed images, how to photograph light trails, and much more. We’ll shoot the riverfront, the downtown core, and get some skyline shots as well.

While we walk around, I’ll also point out a few historical structures, and give you a bit of information about the hidden stories of Pittsburgh. Not only will you get great photos, but you’ll also have a better appreciation for this amazing city.

This workshop is capped at 8 participants. However, if there is enough demand, I may increase the number to 12 participants and add a second instructor.

While this is a workshop for beginners, you’ll get the most out of the workshop if you have a basic idea of how to work your camera. At a minimum, I’d recommend having a camera that you can change the shutter speed on and knowing how to do so. Since all cameras are a bit different, I’d recommend bringing your manual in case we need to figure out how to change a setting on your camera. I also HIGHLY recommend a tripod as not having one will greatly limit your potential shots, though we can work around it if you don’t have one.

If you are more experienced, you are certainly welcome to attend, and we will provide as much or as little help as you’d like.

This workshop will cover approximately a mile of walking distance. The walking with be done mostly along flat paths, but there will be some steps on the route. If steps are a problem, slight changes can be made to the route to accommodate you. Please let us know in advance if you need accommodations.

Generally speaking, tours will go on even if there is a threat of inclement weather. After all, you can get some great shots during poor weather. Should dangerous weather conditions or other conditions force a cancellation, we will attempt to reschedule the workshop. If you are unable to attend the rain date, you can apply your amount paid to another photo workshop or receive a full refund.

There is no minimum age to participate in this photography workshop. All attendees must purchase a ticket.

If you have any other questions, read our FAQ page. You can also message me using the form below.

Note regarding Covid: All participants will be required to sign a waiver to participate in the workshop. This waiver will note the inherent risks of participating in a workshop during the current pandemic. Unless required by local regulations, masks will not be required.

Masks are not required unless local regulations require them on the date of the workshop. The instructor will have his own mask and will put one on when working one-on-one with you if you would like him to.

If you have tested positive for Covid-19 within 5 days of the workshop or meet the current CDC guidelines for quarantining at the time of the workshop, we ask that you not come. We will provide a full refund if you are unable to come due to a Covid-related issue.

Note that we will always follow local regulations regarding Covid, so these policies will be changed if necessary.
