9 Breathtaking Roadside Vistas in Potter County, Pennsylvania

Potter County is an area of immense natural beauty in north-central PA. In fact, wooden signs at nearly every roadway entering the county call it “God’s Country”. Surprisingly, there aren’t a ton of specific natural highlights in the county, but there are a good number of roadside vistas that I’ve enjoyed stopping at during my visits to the Pennsylvania Wilds.

Some of these are along the major roadways through the county, while others are located along gravel forest roads, but they are all worth checking out and easy to reach.

Here are some of my personal favorites roadside vistas in Potter County, PA.

(Note that none of these overlooks have official addresses, so I’ve listed the coordinates for each. Click here for information on how to use coordinates to find your destination.)

Boone Run Vista

Boone Run Vista is located on a gravel road in Susquehannock State Forest, just a few miles from the popular Cherry Springs State Park.

The road to reach this spot is narrow, but as of September 2026, was in good condition and posed no issues for my standard car. Just note that the road isn’t maintained in the winter, so it’s best to avoid this area when there’s snow and ice on the road.

The vista offers fabulous and unobstructed views to the east, making this both a great spot for sunrise and for stargazing.

There is a sign marking this vista, as well as a wooden bench where you can relax.

Boone Run Vista can be found at the following coordinates: 41.635055, -77.814359. Note that turning around is difficult at this spot, so you might have to drive a bit further down Junction Road to head back to the main road.

Losey Vista

Losey Vista offers an incredible view to the north.

Losey Vista is another roadside vista on a gravel road in Susquehannock State Forest, this time near Route 6 east of Coudersport.

Like the previous overlook, the road to reach it was in great shape in September 2026, but remember that it’s not maintained during the winter months.

Losey Vista is located at a large pull-off along Rock Run Road. If you’re traveling between Route 6 and Lyman Run State Park, you might travel this route. It’s among my favorite overlooks in Pennsylvania.

Losey Vista features an awe-inspiring 180-degree, unobstructed view to the north. There’s even a sign here that offers a bit of information about the area and a picnic table if you want to take a break here.

Losey Vista can be found at the following coordinates: 41.760257, -77.751195

Austin Dam Overlook

Austin Dam in Austin, PA was the site of a deadly dam break that caused the death of 78 people in September 1911. Today, the ruins of the dam stand as a testament to this horrible accident.

While you can hike around the dam’s ruins to get a close look at what’s left, the best view, in my opinion, is found along the access road into the park as it offers a great view overlooking these ruins.

This is definitely one of the most interesting views in Potter County.

This vista can be found at the following coordinates: 41.652984, -78.086515

Water Tank Vista

Water Tank Vista is located along Route 44 in Potter County, just southeast of Cherry Springs State Park.

Water Tank Vista is little more than a pull-off along Route 44 without any amenities other than a guardrail and a wood sign, so make sure to use caution when visiting this spot.

The view here faces to the north with nothing obstructing it other than a few tall antennas far in the distance that aren’t overly visible except at nighttime. Interesting, I didn’t see any water tanks or towers from the view here.

Water Tank Vista can be found at the following coordinates: 41.659348, -77.782074. Note that at the time of publication, Google Maps lists this spot as Mountain Overlook, but the sign on-site lists it as Water Tank Vista.

Cherry Springs Vista

Cherry Springs Vista is a nice spot to view the Milky Way.

Cherry Springs Vista is also located on Route 44, just over a mile from Water Tank Vista and two miles from Cherry Springs State Park. However, this spot has a much larger pull-off along the road, so it’s definitely safer to visit.

Note that it’s north of the previous vista as far as road orientation goes, but is physically located south of Water Tank Vista geographically because of a curve in the road.

Looking at the satellite view, this vista actually overlooks the same piece of land that you can see from Boone Run Vista, but facing to the south while the former faces to the east.

That makes this a great spot to view the Milky Way on a moonless night.

Cherry Springs Vista can be found at the follow coordinates: 41.645211, -77.799605.

Lyman Lake Vista

Lyman Lake Vista is a small roadside vista in Potter County that overlooks Lyman Run State Park and offers a great view of the park’s lake. It can be found about a mile from the park’s dam along Rock Run Road, which is the same road along which you’ll find the previously mentioned Losey Vista).

As with several other overlooks on this list, Lyman Lake Vista is located along a gravel road that was in great shape in the fall of 2026 but is not maintained in the winter months.

Unlike the previously listed roadside vistas, this one is also accessible via hiking trails from Lyman Run State Park if you’re looking for a different way to visit this spot.

This vista faces to the west, which would make it a great spot to enjoy the sunset over Lyman Run Lake.

Lyman Lake Vista can be found at the following coordinates: 41.722135, -77.747327.

Longtoe Vista

Longtoe Vista is another great stop along Route 44. This spot is north of Cherry Springs State Park and south of Route 6.

A large pull-off here offers a safe spot to enjoy this great view, which overlooks Susquehannock State Forest. It faces to the southwest, offering another great spot to view the night sky or sunsets.

There’s also a sign here that offers a bit of history and context related to the forests in this pat of the state.

Longtoe Vista can be found at the following coordinates: 41.709867, -77.914726.

Pine Hill Summit Vista

Pine Hill Summit Vista is the southernmost of the roadside overlooks in Potter County that I’ve included here and sits along Route 44.

This is the only overlook on this list not marked with a sign, so I’ve simply named it after the hill that it’s atop. If you know a more official name for it, let me know.

The space around the vista here is rather small, and there are several trees that have grown up that block part of the view. However, this is also one of only two overlooks on this list with a picnic table, so there’s a nice space here to relax and enjoy the beautiful view as you look to the southeast.

Pine Hill Summit Vista can be found at the following coordinates: 41.555315, -77.647838.

Peek-A-Boo Vista

Peek-A-Boo Vista can be found along the ATV trails in Susquehannock State Forest.

Peek-A-Boo Vista is a beautiful spot just outside of Lyman Run State Park that’s worth visiting if you’re able.

It’s not technically roadside with a car, but it is accessible directly along the popular ATV trails in Susquehannock State Forest, so it’s roadside in a sense. That’s why I included it, but listed it last.

For those without an ATV, it’s located not far off of the Standing Stone Trail (STS), so you could also visit it by hiking up the mountain from the state park.

You can ride an ATV up to Peek-A-Boo Vista.

The view here looks to the northeast and offers a nice view over Lyman Run Lake on the opposite mountain from the previously mentioned Lyman Lake Vista. It would be an excellent spot to watch the sunrise.

Peek-A-Boo Vista can be found at the following coordinates: 41.716926, -77.790818.
